It’s official: the very trending health habit of making fresh juices at home has hit us hard here at Tata Harper. We all know why it’s beneficial to incorporate veggie and fruit juices into your food routine (highly concentrated vitamins, minerals, nutrients, antioxidants etc. entering the bloodstream very efficiently; digesting a varied mix of fruits and veggies you might not otherwise eat), and that means that it’s great for the skin, too, which thrives off of the fresh supply of nutrients from a colorful diet.
We went crazy at the co-op last weekend and juiced our little hearts out at the farm. We made sure to focus each recipe on ingredients that are amazing for the skin – because that fresh-faced model-complexion? That can either be achieved by having a full-time makeup artist at your beck and call, or by honoring your insides with consistent daily dosages of fresh fruits and fresh veggies. Yum!
Thusly named due to its soft color that reminds me of 1st-grade desserts, this sweet juice definitely has a different texture than your average juice due to the starch of the raw sweet potato. I actually love it – it’s a nice variation and the flavor of the sweet potato comes across in a gently-veggie sort of way. The intense sweetness of the orange balances it out nicely.
- 2 Gala or Fuji apples
- 1 peeled lemon
- 1/2 of a large sweet potato, or 1 small one
- 2 peeled oranges
Skin benefits: When it comes to ensuring skin longevity, sweet potatoes are like gold, because they they are one of the most concentrated vegetable sources of Beta-Carotene, which is very, very skin friendly. It helps maintain cellular health and protect the skin from aging and degeneration from within. Oranges provide lots of vitamins C and A, and lemon helps the body eliminate toxin buildup.
Beets have a powerful flavor, which comes across pretty strong in this blend – and so does ginger. If you’re in the mood to wake up, this juice packs a very energizing punch.
- 1 whole beet (no need to peel, but definitely chop off the tip and the rooty end)
- A 2-inch peeled piece of ginger
- 1 Orange
- 2 carrots
Skin benefits: Beets are like a cleanser for the body, plus, they’re rich in zinc, vitamin C, and copper. Carrots are the other major kicker in here: they’re also packed with Beta-Carotene. Ginger adds more purifying benefits, and oranges are packed with vitamins A and C.
Ahh – green, hydrating yumminess. This juice features three of our favorite super greens: spinach, kale and parsley, a wonderful trio. Coconut water and super-hydrating cucumber combine nicely to make this mix a little sweeter and therefore easier to guzzle.
- 1 cucumber (no need to peel)
- 1 Granny Smith apple
- 4 cups Kale leaves (aka 4-5 big leaves)
- 3 cups Spinach
- 1 cup Parsley leaves
- 1 cup Coconut Water (we love Harmless Harvest)
Skin benefits: Parley helps to boost the body’s detox process via the liver, kidneys and urinary tract, plus it’s loaded with vitamins A, C and K. Kale has Omega 3’s, high concentrations of Vitamin A (great for skin’s health), and the B vitamins. Granny Smith apples have a lot of Vitamin C and other antioxidants, and spinach helps combat free radicals with Vitamins A and C, and Beta Carotene. Coconut water helps to combat dullness and keep the skin looking plump; cucumber helps with this, too.
