Whether they come from a lab in the Czech Republic, a field of flowers in southern France or as far away as New Zealand or the Amazon (or as nearby as our own organic Vermont farm), each one of our natural active ingredients is unique, potent and specially selected to be included in our formulas for a very specific reason. When Tata first set out to create her 100% natural antiaging line, she was after one thing: ingredients that delivered serious results, without coming in contact with any chemicals or synthetics, ever. Her quest took her all over the globe, from ancient walled castles in England to Egypt, where she consulted with herbalists, aromatherapists, biologists and experts from all related fields who helped her hone in on the best of the best.

We haven’t focused on an ingredient on the blog yet, but I figured it was time to shine the light on one of our most powerful antiaging actives: Date Palm Extract, which can be found in our Rejuvenating Serum and Restorative Eye Creme, where it plays an active role in wrinkle prevention and healthy collagen production.

Here’s a bit of background: Our Date Palm Extract is extracted from, you guessed it, dates. Dates grow in large clumps on palm trees, which are cultivated for the fruit and are grown all over the world in dry, sandy climates and can grow up to 75 feet tall. These trees have been cultivated since ancient times from Iraq to Egypt – the latter of which is where we source our extract from!

So, what does Date Palm do for the skin? Date Palm extract is powerful stuff: it contains 7 compounds that act in synergy to help delay visible effects of aging in the skin, including Phytosterols for barrier function, Ursolic Acid to regenerate the skin, antioxidant Tocotrienols, and Isoflavones for anti-aging. The extract has also been proven to help eliminate toxins from the skin, and to increase type 1 collagen synthesis, which is responsible for keeping the internal structure of fibers in the skin plump and firm.

Studies show that 1% of Date Palm Extract increases anti-oxidating activity by 42% in 24 hours, and when exposed to UVA light, the anti-oxidating effects increased by 66% in 24 hours (tested on human fibroblasts) – this means Date Palm is effective in blocking the damage that free radicals cause, to help keep your skin strong and young overall.

In another study, we saw that a cream containing Date Palm was applied for 5 weeks to the eye area, and results showed a significant reduction of surface depths of wrinkles – in fact, a 60% improvement!

Discovering natural ingredients that contain powerful regenerating qualities is exciting, and we are in constant contact with chemists and scientists around the world who help us stay on top of the latest discoveries, so we can continue to invent and manufacture truly cutting-edge products that deliver visible results.

Is there an ingredient of ours that you’d like to learn more about? We’ll continue  highlighting some of our truly spectacular ingredients (there are so many!) that we think are especially noteworthy, to help you have a better idea of how our advanced ingredient technology actually works with your skin!

  3. I noticed that your products have a gluten free claim, however, I see that there is wheat and soy in some of the products, which is considered gluten. Please confirm if there is gluten in these products as I cannot use anything with gluten in it. Thanks!

  4. Hi Stephanie! We actually don’t claim to be gluten free, as there is a wheat-derived ingredient in some of our products. I checked with our lab team, and here are the details: there is ZERO chance of gluten being retained in the process that involves the production of cetearyl alcohol and cetearyl glucosides, as the protein is denatured by the refining process used to manufacture these ingredients.

We have never had any gluten-intolerant customers complain about a reaction, and we are confident that even those with Celiac’s disease should be fine as these wheat and soy-derived ingredients don’t have any way to interfere with the digestive process. It is best to err on the side of caution of course and perhaps try one of our products, if you are worried about a reaction – but you should be fine! Our wheat and soy-derived ingredients contain NO gluten. Thanks for checking though! :)
