Growing up in Colombia, enjoying fresh fruit and veggie smoothies was part of Tata’s daily life – thanks to that caribbean climate and the availability of produce year-round. Juicing for beauty is still part of her wellness routine, and she’s always quick to point out that one of her favorite juices is one that is rich in Beta Carotene, a powerful substance that is converted to Vitamin A when processed by the body and that contributes to myriad antiaging and overall health benefits. As part of our Beauty from Within series, we thought we’d share her go-to Beta Carotene Blast juicing recipe!
1/2 raw sweet potato, peeled (while this may seem alarming, juiced sweet potato is delicious! It gives the juice a somewhat starchy texture, however, which is unusual but not unpleasant.)
2-3 medium sized carrots
A handful of dried apricots
1/3 of a cantaloupe melon, without the rind
3-4 leaves of fresh Romaine lettuce
1/2 cup of Coconut H20 (this just for hydration!)
Method: Juice it all, mix well and enjoy!
How, exactly, does Beta Carotene contribute to antiaging? It helps repair damaged cells by accelerating cell growth throughout the body; in terms of skin, this helps revitalize and refresh the skin’s function and appearance. Plus, it boosts antioxidant activity, which helps protect the body and skin from environmental damage, including from UV rays.
