Pregnancy and motherhood can be a confusing time for women in our society. There seem to be a thousand differing opinions on what’s best for your body and your baby’s health, both before, during, and after pregnancy. To take multivitamins daily, or not? Which ones? Which foods to eat more of, and how to handle those cravings? How to stay fit, and how to manage with the societal pressure surrounding gaining pregnancy weight? How to manage your time as a new mother once you’re back at work? Plus, what do you do about your birth itself – to find a midwife, to go to a hospital, to take painkillers or not? There are so many questions and decisions, and every woman is different, which can make all these suggestions and opinions feel irrelevant.
One woman that we’ve recently been inspired by is Latham Thomas, the beautiful Mama Glow guru who has made it her mission to help women find their own true Mama Glow – the glowing, radiant and healthy inner mama that she believes exists within each woman and is especially potent during pregnancy. Latham’s focus is on healthy lifestyle practices, whether it’s physical exercise, diet, yoga, community involvement, meditation and mental wellness exercises, that help women find balance and health at all stages of motherhood. We think her work is revolutionary and absolutely necessary! We believe that healthy pregnancies lead to healthy mothers and children who are better equipped to tackle modern life and all its challenges and busyness, and having a strong community of confident women at your back to guide you through the stresses and celebrate the joys of pregnancy and motherhood with you is something every woman should have. She and her team of fellow Mama Glow gurus is incredible, for their positivity, friendliness, open minds and willingness to help anybody and everybody.
We got in touch with Latham to learn more about what she does and why she does it – plus to get some essential everyday health tips for pregnant mamas that can be useful for any woman! Also, exciting news – Latham’s coming out with a book! Launching on November 6th, her book is a “Hip Guide to your Healthy and Abundant Pregnancy.” It’s a positive, warm and exciting guide, loaded with tips, facts, suggestions, recipes and nutritional information that will help any woman experience a healthy, strong pregnancy. See Latham’s answers below – I dare you not to be inspired.

In your eyes, what has MamaGlow’s greatest accomplishment been so far? And where do you hope it will go in the future?
What do you think is the greatest lifestyle challenge for modern mothers?
If you could tell every expecting mama to be sure to include one essential thing in their diet to ensure a healthy pregnancy, what would it be?
Tell us about the book you have coming out! What is it about and who have you written it for?
Mama Glow: A Hip Guide to Your Fabulous Abundant Pregnancy is my gift to all mothers. It’s for a new type of woman that has emerged. One that is motivated, conscious about diet and lifestyle but needs some hand holding during this transition into motherhood. The book is loaded with information but really easy to read. It’s broken down into sections: In the Kitchen, On The Mat, and In Your Life- where I address the pillars of wellness in diet, yoga and movement, and self care practices and how they can ignite one’s glow during pregnancy and beyond. I have some amazing endorsements and supporters including: Christy Turlington Burns, Kris Carr, Tara Stiles, Dr. Frank Lipman, Dr.Richard Ash, Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Neal Barnard, and more. The foreword is by Dr. Christiane Northrup- so it doesn’t get any better than that! The book comes out November 6th- my party is November 8th and I hope to see you all there!
What’s your philosophy on maintaining calm and balance throughout the craziness of everyday life for an entrepreneur and mother? Any wellness tips you’d like to share?
I maintain wellness by starting the day off with a simple meditation. I light some scented candles and create rituals that make me feel grounded. I believe we should all strive to be doing what we were put on earth to do, so if you are a telephone operator who dreams of opening a vegan bakery- you should start pursuing your dream. Entrepreneurship is another form of mothering, we have to nurture these businesses we bring into the world, and at the same time be mindful mamas to our kids.
-Do unto others after you have done unto yourself- if you can take care of yourself as a top priority then you can be more effective in helping those around you because your needs are taken care of. When you are depleted you can only give so much before you breakdown.
Tell us your stories – did you use any health or wellness techniques to ensure a healthy pregnancy? What’s your favorite recipe for a pregnancy-friendly meal? Do you have any fears or concerns regarding pregnancy in modern day society? Also, what do you think of Latham’s approach?
Thanks for reading, and thanks Latham for the amazing answers! What a true treat to have you in our community of health-conscious, forward-thinking, revolutionary friends!
