Gloria Fieldcamp is all things a young woman might aspire to be when she grows up: kind, hard-working, generous with good advice, ambitious, delightful company and seriously competitive in a man’s world of finance and banking. As a dear friend of Tata and her family, Gloria has been right by our side as the company has grown, and we turn to her often when we need some wisdom or a good laugh. Carolina, her bright daughter, joined us for a summer as a Marketing Intern… it’s true, we can’t get enough of the Fieldcamps.
Here, we’re so happy to share her perspective on motherhood, having raised two young ones now through college and into the world. She’s a woman after our own heart – enjoy!
Were curious about your world…tell us about your current state of mind.
My world is that of a professional woman with a family. I am always running around, going from place to place. It’s busy! As for what’s on my mind, I’m worried about what the world is going through and the current state of global affairs.
What is one trait you love about yourself that your children have brought out in you?
Who is your beauty muse?
All my life since I was a little girl, it’s been Katherine Deneuve. Her beauty is flawless and eternal; it’s classic perfection at every age.
With regard to motherhood, whats one thing that nobody talks about that you think is worthy of conversation?
How hard it is! It is not joyful all the time. There is no book written for how to be a good mother. You have to make a lot of sacrificing. I think if youre a good mother, its the most selfless act that any woman can go through.
Whats one thing that really made a difference in terms of your ability to continue working or maintaining your career while starting a family, for better or for worse?
You have to be organized, and prioritize organization. The one thing that really made a difference in allowing me to do all the things that I have been able to do is the amazing support my mother has given me in helping me with the children. She also helped provide self confidence to me and has been such a strong person behind me.
What are some beauty staples that you keep in your purse?
This winter I kept Tata Harper’s Be Adored on hand all of the time, since I had chapped lips all winter. I really learned to love this product, and it became a staple! I also just got a sample of Tata’s new Hand Cream which I adore. Tata has told me not to go anywhere without those two, and I’ve taken her advice to heart.
Has your philosophy on beauty changed now that youre a mom? If it has, how so?
It has changed. I feel that I want to use products that are good for me, and I’ve streamlined what I use. I want to have good products that are basic and multifunctional products because time is of the essence.
Which bedtime story do you most admire?
Where the Wild Things Are. That book is so fun!
Which superpower would you most like to have now that youre a mom?
I would like to have the superpower to create more time. Id love to have more hours in the day.
What is your idea of a perfect weekday morning?
Get up, walk around the reservoir by Central Park. Get back to my apartment, get ready and go to work.
A personal trick you’ve learned that helps you lead the life you love
I observe the golden rule. One should treat others as one would like others to treat oneself in our personal, professional and romantic lives.
