Were curious about your world…tell us about your current state of mind.
My current state of mind is excitement for warm weather, a creative buzz and an attempted sense of relaxation and calm (I recently started learning and practicing Transcendental Meditation).
What is one trait you love about yourself that your children have brought out in you?
Im very affectionate with my children and I love that.
Who is your beauty muse?
My beauty muses are my friends who have a beautiful, healthy, natural glow, a vibrance and excitement about life, a positive energy and anyone who has a very long neck.
With regard to motherhood, whats one thing that nobody talks about that you think is worthy of conversation?
How important it is to carve out some time for yourself each day. It makes me a better mom if I have some space for myself that is not kid or work related.
Whats one thing that really made a difference in terms of your ability to continue working or maintaining your career while starting a family, for better or for worse?
My husband and I share our work at home and with the children. That has been essential. We are both the breadwinners and so we are both the homemakers as well. Its a partnership. Another key component to being able to maintain my career is having caregivers for my children who I love and trust. This gives me the peace of mind to be able to focus on my work when I am at the office.
What are some beauty staples that you keep in your purse?
Tata Harper rejuvenating serum is my absolute go-to. I take it with me everywhere. I also keep Fresh sugar lip balm and Malin and Goetz eucalyptus deodorant in my purse.
Has your philosophy on beauty changed now that youre a mom? If it has, how so?
I am trying to take better care of myself and stay more hydrated. I am focusing on fitness because I really believe that exercise is one of the keys to great skin. I am also obsessive about using products that are natural and do not have harmful chemicals.
Which bedtime story do you most admire?
I love reading to my kids at night. Right now with my twins we are reading the 4th book of Harry Potter and the joy in their eyes as they listen makes me so happy. As for childrens books, my favorite is The Runaway Bunny. I love that line and I will walk across the air to you. I always slow down and repeat it twice when I read that book. That sums up how I feel about my children. I would do anything for them.
Which superpower would you most like to have as a mom?
My dream superpower would be to duplicate myself one to stay home with my kids and one to be at work.
What is your mom/mum/mommy motto?
My mantra to them is I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you for you. Each of my children is very unique and I want them to know that their differences only make me love them more. What makes them different makes them special and I always want them to be proud of who they are. I also tell them How did I get so lucky to get you? I feel very blessed and fortunate. They teach me so much every day.
Favorite family meal to share?
My favorite family meal to share is any one that we can all sit down and eat together. With such busy schedules, it can be hard to all sit down together, and especially hard as a working mom for me to be able to cook for them. One time a parenting coach told me to focus on one or two special meals each week instead of getting down on myself that every meal is not home cooked and shared together. I really have appreciated releasing that expectation of perfection and being able to feel good about the times when I am able to make it happen.
What is your idea of a perfect weekday morning?
My husbands mother used to let him occasionally take a day to grow – I.e. Miss school occasionally to do something special or just to relax and catch a breath. So my dream weekday morning would be to have a day to grow with one of my kids a day where we could go out for a special breakfast, take a walk and then cuddle together in bed for a nap before heading off to some adventure in the city together.
A personal trick you’ve learned that helps you lead the life you love
When youre a mom you have to be incredibly efficient with your time. Every minute counts. So Ive learned to make good use of any spare moment I have whether its cross stitching on the train or making cupcake toppers for a class birthday on my way to work or sneaking out of the office for a midday soul cycle class.
Were so happy that you use Tata Harper Skincare – tell us about the products that you cant live without.
The Rejuvenating Serum, as I mentioned, is my absolute favorite. I would bathe in it if I could. I feel instantly hydrated and have a nice glow as soon as I put it on. Its a great base for other make up and it has the most beautiful scent. Its the scent my kids associate with me. It means mama to them.
