You just had a great workout; maybe you just finished sweaty at a spin class, found some moments of calm in a yoga class or went for a run in the beautiful outdoors. What is next? How can you rejuvenate your body to make your workout as efficient as possible? We pulled together the most important steps for you to do after your workout to protect your body and wellbeing and reenergize for the rest of the day.
I know, I know, life is busy and you are just glad that you found the time to squeeze in your hour long barre class and you can’t imagine taking the extra ten minutes to stretch. But believe us (and every medical professional, physical therapist, trainer, and coach you have ever had) stretching is key! Take the time to regulate your blood flow, improve your flexibility and prevent future injury. Extra bonus: use a foam roller, it will do wonders for your mussels.
When you hop out of the shower or are getting ready for bed at night, are your muscles still aching? I always use our Tata Harper Soothing Muscle Gel after my workouts. The natural gel instantly releases the feeling of soreness in my muscles due to the amazing cooling sensation it provides. Natural essential oils of cistus, lemon peel and blue cypress create a cooling sensation while Arnica extract provides a calming element. The muscle gel also provides comfort and relief due to the inclusion of ginger and turmeric while shea butter and aloe hydrate the skin. Simply apply the gel to your sore mussels and massage until it is completely absorbed.
Re-hydrate & Re-fuel
Eating right is so important after a workout and is often a step that many of us ignore, thinking that we are not hungry. However it is so important to re-fule our bodies with electrolytes, carbohydrates, protien and nutrients to allow for our workout to be as effective as possible. If your in a rush reach for a natural smoothie with added protein, such as this easy green smoothie by McKel at Nutrition Stripped, or a hard boiled egg. If your workout is close to meal time, you should look to lean protein such as chicken breast, tuna or salmon. Vegetables will provide you with key nutrients and vitamins, I personally love spinach as it is especially great for reducing muscle inflammation and blood pressure. Another post-workout favorite of mine are avocados, as they have fiber and healthy fats. And finally, hydration is key so remember to not only drink water during your workout but after as well. If you prefer something other than water, give coconut water a try! Also, if we skip a snack directly after a workout we will often end up being hungry later on and reaching for more unhealthy options.
After a good workout I am always sweaty and red but with my hectic schedule I don’t always have time to shower before heading to school, work or a meeting. That is where my gym necessities come in handy so that I can quickly refresh my skin and give myself a simple glow to keep moving on for the day. Our Daily Essentials Discover Kit is the perfect collection of travel sizes skincare to pop into my gym bag so that I can have everything with me from my cleanser, to serum and moisturizer with me. Next I reach for my favorite Rahua Dry Shampoo and often put my hair up in a top bun or braid. Deodorant is obviously a must, our favorite is Soapwalla’s Natural Deodorant Cream. And then I will dab on some bronzer and luminizer to get that perfect fresh faced glow.
