The Season of Love is here.
Its the time of year to get swept up in romance, to get lost in love, to express and indulge in adoration. Its also the time to remember one truth: the most important love affair of your life is the one you have with yourself. Self-acceptance, self-love, confidence, peace – whatever you call it, its a beauty and energy that shines from within. That singular glow cant be faked, and cant be mimicked by makeup. Self-love beautifies.
This Valentines season, instead of taking the conventional route of touting pink carnations and secret crushes (who are we kidding; we love those, too), were looking within, and are inviting you to join us on a mini campaign to get to know, and love, ourselves.
Heres why: in powerful ways, the way we feel about ourselves affect how we look, and how we present ourselves to the world: our posture, our poise, our energy and even our skin. Self confidence is deeply linked to overall happiness, and people who feel good about themselves are more joyful overall and throughout their lives. When we sit or stand in poor posture, not only do other people perceive us as passive or afraid but we feel passive and afraid; posture affects the hormonal levels that are connected to more or less confidence, higher or lower stress. The effect of self confidence and happiness is superficial, too, and impacts our skin: stress, negative emotions, worry and sadness all contribute to inflammation, premature wrinkles, dullness and loss of volume and glow in the skin. Therefore, keeping thoughts about yourself (and most things) positive and appreciative means skin that weathers the years better.
Maybe you already feel pretty awesome about yourself, or maybe you’re someone who needs frequent positive reinforcement from friends and others (or Instagram), or maybe self confidence has always been a weak spot for you. No matter where you’re coming from on the I-Love-Myself spectrum, there’s no such thing as too much self respect, and we could all use a boost now and then.
So, let’s take the opportunity that the Season of Love presents, and let’s see what Self Love can do.

Fourth, spend some time in the kitchen and make something yummy that tastes great and feels better. If there’s anything that we’ve collectively learned from Instagram in 2014, it’s that healthy can be delicious, and that there’s no shortage of innovative recipes to be found upon just a few clicks or swipes online. A few ideas to get you started: a beautifying, coconut-vanilla-almond-date smoothie recipe; three juice recipes for glowing skin, and ten foodies you should be following on Instagram for constant healthy inspiration.
