As the weather warms up, I find myself reaching for refreshing sips whenever I can, and trying to make an extra effort to spring clean my diet and stay healthy and hydrated throughout this hot and humid season. My tropical green smoothie has been my go-to recipe every spring, and is perfect when you’re feeling under the weather or need a little mid-day pick me up.
2 1/2 cups fresh organic spinach: Low in fat and cholesterol and high in vitamins, iron, and calcium
The juice of 1/2 a lemon: High in Vitamin C, balances pH in the body, and aids digestion
The juice of 1 orange: High in Vitamin C, B, and fiber, boosts immune system
1/2 cup frozen pineapple: Reduces redness, high in Vitamin C and mangenese
1/2 cup frozen mango: Helps to clear skin, high in fiber and Vitamin C, improves digestion
1 tablespoon unsweetened coconut: High in vitamins, decreases cholesterol, natural antioxidant
Combine ingredients in a blender and give it a whirl–if the consistency needs tweaking, add in a splash of coconut water or another handful of greens. The best part about this recipe is that it’s completely fool-proof. You can mix and match greens and fruits if you prefer one flavor over another, and the outcome will always be delicious!
