Here at Tata Harper, sustainability is a part of everything we do. We are totally vertically integrated, doing everything from formulation to manufacturing ourselves in our facility in Vermont to minimize our footprint. Being environmentally friendly isn’t about scale, it’s about our principles and values, and the decisions we make with the supplies we buy. We stick to these principles in every step we take.
We choose the most environmentally friendly recyclable packaging options we can. We use glass for most of our packaging because it’s infinitely recyclable, our boxes use 100% post consumer recycled papers and soy based inks, and our tubes are made of corn-based plastics. As we grow it actually gets easier because with bigger volumes we can afford more advanced equipment and better materials.
Does Vermont have more cows than people? Not quite. But we do take advantage of our bovine population by having our farm be ‘cow-powered’. Vermont produces a huge amount of dairy, so we participate in Green Mountain Power’s program to use renewable energy captured from cow manure at local dairy farms. We’re also exploring solar options we could use on our own farm in the future.
The same way we are committed to creating products that aren’t harmful to our clients’ bodies, we make every effort to ensure we aren’t harming the Earth. We are certified cruelty free and our ingredients are sourced from farms around the world that share our high standards in preserving nature. Many of our ingredients are certified organic and all are always 100% natural and non toxic.
Tata donates the Nature Conservancy, which “has helped protect more than 300,000 acres of land, over 1,200 miles of shoreline and manage and maintain 55 natural areas” in the state of Vermont. Like us, they are stewards of sustainability, encouraging Vermonters to invest in nature’s resources and help protect our wildlife and environment.
On the EPA website, sustainability is described as:
Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations.
The future is beautiful. It is up to us all to stay on the path that preserves our environment, wildlife, and climate by being mindful of what we produce and use in our everyday lives.
