Tips from Tata: 7 Ways to Get the Most out of our Resurfacing Mask

On our product boxes and in our pamphlets and inserts are, of course, instructions for how to use each product. But truthfully – there are lots of unique ways to use each one that can help you tailor your skincare experience so that you get more out of your products, depending on your skin’s unique needs. Tata has tips for each product; useful suggestions that can help you really get the multi-faceted benefits our products offer – so we thought the Blog would be a great place to share!

Let’s start with the Resurfacing Mask, an active beta hydroxy treatment that imparts an instant glow to the skin. It accelerates cell renewal, minimizes the look of pores, and reduces redness with 11 active ingredients. For the classic Mask experience – which will exfoliate, smooth and soften the skin while tightening pores, detoxifying and reducing inflammation – apply a thick layer on a clean face and leave for 20-30 minutes.

Tata’s Saturday morning deep-clean ritual: Once a week, Tata uses her Clarisonic brush with the Regenerating Cleanser for an extra deep exfoliation and polishing treatment, and then she immediately follows this with the Mask. This process guarantees soft, super clean skin that is prepared for the week.

If you have acne prone skin, an effective way to use the Mask to fight breakouts and control oily skin is to combine a bit of the Regenerating Cleanser with the Mask for a super deep clean. Active enzymes in the Cleanser will contribute to the complete exfoliation of your skin, and gently antiseptic extracts like Grapefruit and Willow Bark help to treat and reduce breakouts, as well as calm down existing inflammation. This cocktail would work well with our Refreshing Cleanser too, if you have more sensitive skin.

To really tackle unbalanced skin that is oily, has enlarged pores or frequent breakouts, combine the tip above with a double-Mask layer at least 3x a week for 1 month, and then trim the routine down to once or twice a week onward. Staying committed to this treatment routine is important to help you experience the benefits! To get a double-layer, apply 2 layers of the Mask to your face (let the first layer dry for two or three minutes before applying the second). Sticking to this routine will help your skin naturally control its sebum (facial oil) production, will minimize pores, soften, smooth and tone your skin. Over time, you’ll feel it start to become balanced and its condition improve.

To really drive the acne-fighting benefits of the Mask deeper into your pores, try a facial steam sauna! First, apply a layer of the Mask to your face while you have a pot of water on the stove to boil. Once it’s boiling, take it off the heat and hover your head over the pot – drape a towel over your head to catch the steam – and breathe deep. The steam will help the actives in the Mask penetrate your skin to really clean it, reduce pore size, and get rid of dead skin, pollution and other environmental toxins. Wait ’till the pot of water has cooled, and then rinse your face thoroughly with warm water. (And yes – you can combine this sauna with the first 2 tips for the deepest Mask treatment of all, guaranteed to leave your skin clean and glowing).

To help treat and minimize spots and pimples, dab a bit of the Mask on a single pimple or breakout area and leave overnight to help reduce redness and puffiness with active Witch Hazel and Willow Bark. Willow Bark is a natural source of salicylic acid and has antibacterial and astringent qualities which help in the treatment of acne, without the harsh, drying chemicals. This will also help prevent the overnight spread of the bacteria that’s causing the breakout!

To get an instant healthy glow on-the-go, apply 2 layers of the mask for just 10 minutes – again, wait a few minutes to let the first layer dry before you apply the second. This can be a great balancing treatment in the morning on a day when your skin feels particularly oily, and will also minimize the look of pores and improve the tone of your skin in a jiffy.

Leave the Mask on while you work out! The heat your body produces will help activate the enzymes, and as your pores open to naturally detoxify while sweating, they’ll be ready to receive the deeply cleansing and exfoliating effects of the Mask’s enzymes. When you finally rinse off, you’ll feel cleaner than ever – and don’t worry! The Mask dries, clear, so no one will be able to tell you have it on.

  1. I love the mask! What tips do you have for fighting inflammation on mature, sun-damaged skin, especially in the T-zone? Should I use more than once a week?

  2. Hi Penelope… great question. For this we would turn to our Replenishing Nutrient Complex, which helps soothe and fight inflammation. It’s balancing and nourishing and helps regulate whatever issue the skin is having that is preventing it from being calm and healthy. Rose Geranium helps improve skin tone, and Calendula soothes and heals. Otherwise, if the inflammation is causing an irregular skin texture, avoid over-exfoliating it… avoid scrubbing with a washcloth or brush and be very gentle when you clean! Hope this helps :)
