At Tata Harper, being 100% natural is our thing – we aren’t interested in including any synthetic or chemical ingredients in our products, ever, simply because they don’t belong on our skin and in our bodies. But as a business we also care a lot about sustainability. There are so many companies out there who go about things the cheapest, fastest way possible, to make a quick buck, by outsourcing manufacturing to where labor is cheap (or giving the job to machines), by buying cheap plastic packaging, by using non-recycled packaging materials (which are often cheaper) or by buying the cheapest energy available (which is usually not very green).
We pride ourselves on going the extra mile to make sure we are doing the best thing for the environment and for you – we use recycled packaging materials, recycleable glass bottles, treeless labels, we don’t outsource anything (low carbon footprint: everything happens in VT!), we like electronic receipts better than paper ones and we buy our energy from renewable VT sources (cow power, baby!). We truly believe that this is the way business is ought to be done – with a conscience.
That’s why we were psyched to see this news report about a letter sent from the American Sustainable Business Council (America’s largest sustainability-focused organization of businesses) on June 12th 2012 to the White House and congress, “calling for a growing economy compatible with shared prosperity and environmental stewardship.”
Here’s a great quote from the letter to give you an idea of its message:
“We call on government to empower the engines of our economy- businesses- to be agents of recovery and revitalization. By properly managing markets, accounting for full costs, creating incentives, providing support, and creating a level playing field, government can enable restorative, equitable and sustainable economic models to thrive. Let us unleash the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation across all sectors to confront and solve the economic, social and environmental problems we face today.”

It’s that very spirit of entrepreneurship, innovation and responsibility that has helped drive Tata Harper Skincare to the leading edge of the natural skincare industry and has attracted so many devoted supporters. We believe in honest business practices that are good to our shared natural environment and are good to our bodies. It’s an exciting time to be part of this growing movement of sustainable businesses and we are feeling that thrill every day!
Let’s hope Congress takes that letter seriously and helps support the businesses that work hard to contribute to the creation of a sustainable economy.
