Guess how cold it was when I woke up this morning?
-8 degrees. And frankly, that’s nothin’. On Tuesday at 6 am, it was -20. With weather that cold, life slows down a little bit – one tends to stay inside, huddled by the fire or under a blanket, opting to eat in rather than venture out for a meal. Cute outfits tend to wind up shrouded in sweater upon scarf, losing shape in the name of precious heat, and there’s simply no point in spending time on one’s hair when it’s going to be under a wooly hat all day. It’s been an unusually cold winter, and needless to say, we’re lusting after Spring, filling our Pinterest boards with visions of the fairer seasons.
Apparently, it was cold down in New York too during fashion week – Bill Cunningham dutifully took note, capturing the most creative ways that attendees stayed warm while looking chic. As I observed from afar, mostly sticking to Who What Wear’s slideshows, I found myself most attracted to styles that looked cozy and bundled, probably due to the fact that as I was clicking through slides, afternoon faded to a freezing evening and chilly winds rattled our windows. Here are the five cutest / coziest looks that I loved from this year’s 2015 Fall / Winter fashion week, from a variety of designers.
J.CREW: I adore this look. The elegant blue blazer, the wooly, extended accent cuffs in a slightly more royal shade, the surprisingly ornate gold stitching on the scarf that provides just the right amount of flair, and rough, practical jeans. Obviously, actually fall and winter appropriate footwear was nowhere to be seen on the runways, but those d’Orsay pumps are pretty cute.
ELIZABETH & JAMES: This big, warm, fluffy coat is can’t-take-your-eyes-off-it beautiful to me, in that sort of understated, almost-casual way that makes it feel accessible. No doubt this number could keep us warm up here in Vermont!
RALPH LAUREN: This look is serious on the cozy factor – look at the cuffs of those gloves! While we don’t support buying fur, there is no doubt that it’s warm, and if that’s what you’re going for, this outfit nails it. A long, streamlined skirt and turtleneck combo, with the classic Russian fur hat to top if off.
SEE BY CHLOE: Poncho, wooly tartan skirt, hand warmers and a turtleneck – a gorgeously warm look in pretty autumn tones.
BANANA REPUBLIC: With layering, more is always more! I’m charmed by the smart combination here of a white button-down with a classic, heather gray dress, topped off with a basic blazer. Dresses and jeans seems to be a thing these days, and this particular combination is nice and understated; I’d even say very office-friendly.
What were you favorite fall/winter ’15 styles? Any that we missed?
Stay warm, and have a happy weekend!
