Were you expecting sweaters and scarves? Its not an easy look to pull off (the layered look, that is) though Tata seems to have an innate talent for it! Perhaps its the years of experience braving Vermonts rain-sodden, cold weather season coupled with her love of fashion. She has a true talent for harmonious mixing and matching and I think it comes from the willingness to try something new; thats how to master the art of layering. Keep at it!
Inspired by the infectious spirit to create and in an effort to mix up the drab, rainy week weve been experiencing at the farm, Clare and I did some layering of our own this week. We took our new favorite products, Tatas limited-edition Lip and Cheek Tints and the Be Fierce Lip Treatment, and whipped up some new shades simply by blending a combination of two. Clares been wearing Very Vivacious religiously since she got her first hot pour sample from the Open Lab, I dont even know if she let it dry before she started putting it on her cheeks. I on the other hand have become obsessed in pursuit of perfecting the art cheek contouring since developing a bit of a beauty crush on cheeky supermodel (and Mrs. John Legend) Chrissy Teigen, so I swear by both Very Charming (a classic petal pink) and Very Sweet (a soft effervescent peach). In addition to those shades, we also love these new combinations below. Our little paint-pot-style jar makes them so easy to make, you could create the look on the subway.
Why we love it: This juicy hue is sassier than our baby pink and more vibrant than our more modern coral, so its got the right amount of panache to create an adventurous lip. We love this shade with a monochromatic palette of nude or blush pink.
Heres what youll need: Volumizing Lip & Cheek tint in Very Charming and our NEW Holiday Edition Volumizing Lip & Cheek tint in ….. (coming soon – sorry, we can’t share those details just yet!)
Why we love it: Consider this color the alter-ego of the classic pink lip; the Sasha Fierce to our Very Charming. It takes a certain type of woman to carry off a bright, poppy lip and believe it or not theres theory behind itcolor theory! When it comes to lip color, this is a particular instance in which the color doesnt say something about you, you say something about YOU when youre wearing IT. One of my favorite college courses was Color Theory 101 where I learned how color can be a determinant for behavior and also why we gravitate towards certain shades. At the time, I loved magenta, so Ill share what I remember. Magenta is combination of powerful red and quiet, introspective violet. The pinkish-hue conveys both passion and intuitive energy. Its also said that fuchsia represents universal love at its highest level. No wonder its not one for the meek of heart… the lip shade, that is!
Why we love it: Were spoiled. We practically live in a natural and nontoxic beauty closet but because were huge fans, and in some cases friends, of some really amazing beauty and lifestyle writers at Shes In The Glow, Garance Doré and Into the Gloss (there isnt a top shelf we havent rummaged through). Were constantly getting inspired by trends and the real, talented and beautiful women that start them. Needless to say, there are always things we want to try but wont because we really do believe in the lifestyle that is greatly influenced by our work. So the super-glossy-gloss-on-gloss pink lip? Not happening… at least until Tata makes one, because so many of them contain things you dont want to know about (but should) like arsenic, metals and cadmium. This article by Dr. Frank Lipman shares that the popular makeup-bag staple contains the highest lead concentration of all cosmetics! Until theres one thats pure, were sticking with this sweet combo. Looks great on your lips and comes with no quips.
