It’s always a thrill to work with women who have exceedingly exciting careers who are also deeply down-to-earth: meet Rachelle Hruska, co-founder of Guest of a Guest, the social event news and photography hub for New York, Miami, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, DC and the Hamptons. Talk about FOMO – their New York City events page not only keeps us up to date on who is where and doing what, but helps to spell out the trends and topics that are defining each city, each season. It’s a staple site for young, fashionable urbanites staying on top of the socialite schedule, but they also provide photography and reporting services, and do a killer job at it.
We’re so honored and excited to share an interview with Rachelle below, who took some time out of her busy event schedule (yes, attending parties is part of her job!) to reflect on motherhood with us, in honor of this month’s special holiday.
Were curious about your world…tell us about your current state of mind.
Optimistic. It feels like winter is finally over and I am so happy the sun is out!
What is one trait you love about yourself that your children have brought out in you?
I can be pretty silly, and having children has definitely brought out the dork factor in me. I love singing and dancing and playing crazy make believe games with them.
Who is your beauty muse?
Any woman who is confident in their skin radiates beauty for me.
With regard to motherhood, whats one thing that nobody talks about that you think is worthy of conversation?
We live in such a stressful time/environment. We are all expected to do so many things, and at such a fast pace not to mention also monitoring how everyone else is seemingly doing everything BETTER than us on social media that it can become unbearably difficult to just survive. And its okay to need help. I want to star every Instagram I post with a note, like this is not real life, this is not really what you think.
Whats one thing that really made a difference in terms of your ability to continue working or maintaining your career while starting a family, for better or for worse?
I would never be able to have the career I do without the support of my husband and our nanny, who has been with us since the birth of our first child. With the help of my husband, I moved our offices one block from our house, I still get to walk home to put my one year old down for naps, I mean, I am truly lucky.
What are some beauty staples that you keep in your purse (aside from Sophie, of course)?
I always have lip balm (I love badger) with me. Seriously, as long as I my lip balm and my iPhone, Im good.
Has your philosophy on beauty changed now that youre a mom? If it has, how so?
I think becoming a mom has made me more confident as a woman, which I suppose has translated to my beauty routine. I wear less makeup and take better care of my skin.
Which bedtime story do you most admire?
I love anything that my sons love. Right now they are into The Bernstein Bears, Dr. Seuss and Richard Scary books.
Which superpower would you most like to have now that youre a mom?
I have always wanted to be able to fly.
What is your mom/mum/mommy motto?
Work hard on becoming the best version of yourself. This is the greatest gift you can give your children.
Favorite family meal to share?
We go to Gemma every Sunday night for Pizza and Ice Cream, and on cold winter days we head to the Jane Hotel for Hot Chocolates.
What is your idea of a perfect weekday morning?
I love waking up with my sons in the morning and spending the first hours with them. Then, the best weekdays are usually the ones that are unpredictable and contain meeting an interesting person or two that teach me to look at something in a new and exciting way. Dinner in with my family and snuggles at bedtime followed by an old movie in bed with my husband. That is the perfect day.
A personal trick you’ve learned that helps you lead the life you love
Remember that you are going to die. I know it sounds morbid, but for some reason, whenever anything seems overwhelming or too much to handle, I remind myself of this fact and it puts it all into perspective.
Were so happy that you use Tata Harper Skincare – tell us about the products that you cant live without.
I absolutely love the Rejuvenating Serum. I was introduced to it 4 years ago on the day of my wedding and have been a fan ever since. I also use the Repairative Moisturizer and Regenerating Cleanser. Besides making my facial skin feel amazing and glowing, I love the smell!
