Tata’s three little tykes occasionally visit the office, turning all of us into a fawning fan club. Who doesn’t love a little Harper saying hello during a morning meeting? Here, Tata shares her answers to the same questions that we asked our four amazing blogging mothers (Julia, Latham, Rachel and Marissa), to give you a glimpse into Tata’s other daily reality in Vermont- not as founder and CEO of Tata Harper Skincare, but as mom to Hunter, Grace and Tata Mia. Enjoy!
What’s a moment from motherhood you’ll never forget?
Setting up for Hunter’s first birthday party (he’s now 5 years old). We made a big deal out of it, because it was our first one ever, and it was such a special day. We set up a tent, and had a picnic, and a lot of friends and neighbors came by. I remember how awesome it was in particular because I was able to put so much energy into it, and now, I need to do this three times a year for Grace and Tata Mia as well. I’ll never forget that vey first birthday celebration.
What keeps you feeling beautiful? (Interpret this any way you like!)
Being adventurous with fashion and having a colorful, varied wardrobe; I really never wear any black and wearing bright colors helps keep me feeling beautiful. Plus, wearing Charlotte Olympia shoes – who wouldn’t feel beautiful in those! And of course, having a good hair day helps.
What’s one thing you’ve learned from being a mom?
That it’s really important to take a little bit of time – even if it’s just ten minutes every day – to focus on yourself and meeting your own needs, because having a young family is incredibly demanding, and in order to give all of yourself, you need to be in a good place. It’s impossible to always give love and energy to others if you never give any to yourself, so I try to factor that into my daily routine.
What’s your favorite beauty food?
My daily fruit juice blend that contains apple, pear, apricot, blueberries, raspberries – basically, anything fresh and fruity that we have in the fridge. It’s a blast of nutrients, antioxidants and most importantly, Beta Carotene – which is so important for the skin, and is something I try to incorporate into my diet as much as possible. Basically, it keeps me energized and I know it’s supporting my skin’s health from the inside out, too.
What’s your favorite Tata Haper product and why?
The Elixir Vitae serum, because it gives you the results of injectables, with only natural, nontoxic ingredients. It contains this powerful mixture of ingredients that help volumize the skin, to create that cushion and volume that we lose as we age, helping to smooth the appearance expression lines. Those ingredients really represent that latest in skincare technology today, and I love mixing it with my other serums and using it daily.
How do you treat yourself?
I think it’s a common misconception among my friends that because I work in skincare, I practically live in a spa, and am always enjoying facials and treatments. In reality, I do all of my own beauty treatments! I treat myself every Saturday with a total beauty and hair routine, to give my skin a fresh start. I use Clarisonic brushes, exfoliating Masks, herbal teas for detoxification that I use with my steamers, all of my serums and a hair wrap using my Revitalizing Body Oil. It takes a while, but my skin absolutely glows when I’m finished. Also, I do aromatherapy baths with my kids every night, which is a little bit of a treat, too.
What’s your favorite way to disconnect and spend time with your family?
We create mini parties inside of the house sometimes during the evening – I’ll go down into the basement with the kids and put on loud Latin dance music, and we’ll dance together, and do little group exercises. It’s a way for them to get rid of that extra energy they have at the rest of the day, while spending time together and having fun.
